Happy New Year from VAPEBOX! Last year we anxiously waited to see what the new year would mean for Australian vapers following the pending nicotine ban, and now we are finally able to share with you the news we have been given.
Getting Your Nicotine Prescription
Recently we spoke to Dr Carolyn Beaumont, an experienced Australian prescriber of nicotine e-liquid. Below is a link to her website, where you will be able to book a phone consultation with her from anywhere in Australia. If nicotine is clinically indicated for the purposes of smoking cessation, a prescription will be emailed to you on the same day as your consultation, making it the quickest and easiest way to get your prescription sorted. $125 AU for a 3 month script, with 3 repeats, providing you with a 12 month supply of nicotine. This is very well priced, as some other Australian prescribers charge up to $90 for a single 3 month script, ie $360/year. Whoever you choose, make sure you check if their price is for a 3 month or 12 month supply.
Alternatively, The Australian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association has put together a list of doctors by state that are known to prescribe nicotine. This link will show you which state the doctors are from, what type of consultations they do and what they charge. Please note that this doesn’t mean that they will prescribe it, it means that they will assess your situation and will provide you with a prescription if they deem appropriate.
Anyone under the age of 18 is not considered eligible for a prescription and will not be able to obtain one. However, most doctors will be able to discuss other options to quit smoking.
If your doctor is willing to write you a prescription but does not know how to, please share with them this link, which will not only show them how to prescribe nicotine but will also give them information such as counselling patients, how to select the right nicotine strength and advising patients on selecting the right device.
