Are You Thinking About Switching to Vaping?
When it comes to vaping, there are a handful of variables that may be changed to cater to your individual preferences.
If you’ve tried vapes in the past and had a bad run, there could be many reasons why. This is especially true if you last tried a vape or e-pen years and years ago but hated it. The industry has evolved significantly since then! Almost everything has improved, from the way the vapour is produced to the taste of juices, and how much charge one device can hold.
When starting out, experimentation is key. Never stick to one device if you don’t like it because there are plenty of options out there.
For example, if you find it too exhausting to change your vape coils and juice and worry about a battery, buy a battery pack or swap to a smaller device – you end up getting the same nicotine hit, but may sacrifice the size of your clouds. Likewise, if you don’t like your current juice, there are many others to choose from. Take It Steady
Going from smoking cigarettes to vaping within a day is no easy feat. ‘Dual-use’ is what a lot of people do on their way to committing to The Big Switch. This refers to smoking a combination of smokes and vapes before and gradually pulling away from cigarettes.
Remember – there is no slipping – we’re only counting the ones we don’t smoke. You’ll find that vaping becomes more fun than smoking in no time. Especially if you live in a place where you have to smoke outside, you may find yourself vaping inside – especially important with Winter coming.
Amount Of Nicotine
Sometimes the switch to vaping is difficult for people because they’ve gone from a set nicotine value in their favourite cigarettes to having to choose a nicotine concentration.
Sometimes if you choose a juice where the nicotine is too low, it leaves you with a desire to smoke a cigarette. Or on the flipside, if it’s too high, it might make you feel a bit sick. So, it is an important thing to research.
For most people who smoke a pack over the course of a day, 18-20mg is the perfect amount. If you smoke two thirds of a pack a day, 12mg is perfect. Using these as reference points, you should be able to identify the perfect amount of nicotine for you.
Know PG/VG Mixing
E-Liquid generally contains two main liquids referred to as PG (Propylene glycol) and VG (Vegetable glycerin). PG is the liquid that is responsible for the flavouring and the feeling of ‘throat hit’ – the slight abrasive feeling against the back of your throat as you inhale. VG on the other hand is responsible for the size of the clouds, the vapour.
Depending on whether you prefer or dislike this sensation, missing it or not may define if you enjoy your vape and continue to use it sustainably. Therefore, it is important to know what you can do to change the amount of throat hit coming from your vape juice and device.
Do you enjoy a light or harsh throat hit when you have smoked cigarettes? There are a few things you can do to augment this. Aim for a higher PG blend in your juice – juices tend to be labelled with a ratio of PG to VG (e.g., 70% to 30%). The more PG, the stronger the throat hit. You may also elect to decrease the airflow. Often, by twisting the nozzle on the top of the device to decrease the amount of air coming in per puff, you can increase throat hit. Setting the device to a higher temperature will also increase the amount of throat hit.
If you want to reduce the amount of throat hit, you can elect to do the opposite of the steps we’ve just listed to achieve a gentler effect.
